We recently attended ShiftCon in Los Angeles to lead the Future of Labeling GMOs panel wherein we pushed for bloggers to become citizen journalists with verified resources and working with established campaigns. We have received great response from attendees as well as local bloggers we had reached out to prior to our trip. Here are some points for bloggers that want to work with our efforts for GMO labeling here in Colorado.
1. Encourage people to vote. There are two ballot initiatives for the November 4th election. Here in Colorado and in Oregon. Urge voters in these states to vote. In Colorado you can register or update your voter registration here.
2. Educate people about genetic engineering
3. Inform people about our proposition. The Blue Book is the best source of information with the non-partisan legislature providing information such as costs to implement regulation ($113,000 first year from general fund) and the regulatory agency (Colorado Department of Health and Environment) that will establish regulation specifics with public input. However we also have talking points and faqs.
4. Answer rebuttals to the misinformation our extremely well-funded opponent has been plastering all over traditional media
and/or
5. Issue a call to action for phone bank volunteers since this can be done outside of Colorado
