Bloggers, We Want You
We recently attended ShiftCon in Los Angeles to lead the Future of Labeling GMOs panel wherein we pushed for bloggers to become citizen journalists with verified resources and working with established campaigns. GE (Genetic Engineering) Education
One of the things that is more problematic for our proposition when compared to other propositions is that people do not always know what GMOs or GEs are. These are processes in which food is manipulated at the genetic level to no longer resemble what would have been found in nature. Here are a few graphics to help explain what they are and then we hope people will be interested enough to make a decision whether they want them labeled or not.

Follow the Money
Less than a week after the Grocery Manufacturer's Association Leadership Forum in Colorado Springs the money began rolling in to our state to oppose GMO labeling. In less than 3 weeks the opposition has mounted $1,425,000 from corporate donors who attended this meeting. Is your right to know what is in your food worth this corporate wallet that is being opened?
At heart are GMOs and whether you as a consumer have a right to know what you are buying. In the last 20 years GMOs have become prevalent in our diets without our permission. This GMO issue is not a consumer versus farmer issue like the opposition is trying to force, it is a corporate accountability issue to consumers and communities.
If the GMO labeling issue ever seems confusing, follow the money to see who is creating the conversation you are having. Here is yesterday's filing report from the Colorado Secretary of State.

11-9 Victory in CIR Decision
Yesterday was a huge day for the campaign with the decision of the Citizen Initiative Review. The 20-member review acted as a microcosm of the larger GMO labeling effort with examining how we communicate our message, dealing with distractions from a well-funded opponent, and resonating concerns with citizens about regaining our right to know what is in our food.
See our press release on the 11-9 finding of the panel.
